Overview

Nepal – a land of the Himalayas, offers numerous trekking routes to quell the thirst of even the most avid trekkers. Amongst all the trekking trails, The Pikey Peak Trek is most likely the shortest and the most grandiose trail currently in use within the kingdom of Nepal. Despite being only a week-long, the route leads us to vantage points, atop which one can admire the panoramic view of the 600km Himalayan chain. Such images are not easily forgotten by any who witness such wonder. Although fairly new, the Peaky Peak Trail has already become the go-to trekking route by many who physically or financially cannot afford the Everest Base Camp trek. Pikey Peak Trek, kicks off from Okhaldhunga, within the heart of the Sherpa country in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. The region constitutes of different trekking routes and local trails within the lower Everest region which can lead to the Pikey Peak(4,065m). Being relatively new, the trail lacks the hustle and bustle of trekkers, like its neighbor the Mount Everest Trekking Trail.  Along the route there are numerous villages and ancient monasteries, adding a feeling of serenity to the route. Reaching the summit brings with it the magical panoramic view of the six legendary 8000 m peaks; Mount Everest (8848 m), Lhotse (8516 m) Kanchenjunga (8586 m), Makalu (8481 m), Manaslu (8163 m), Annapurnas. The main feature that makes Pikey Peak trek unique is – the trail allows us to experience and witness Mt. Everest within a week. The trails are less beaten and few trekkers take the route, making it suitable for anyone willing to explore nature alone or in seclusion. The trail transverses through traditional Sherpa settlements, providing us the glimpse of the day to day life of these natives. Here you can enjoy the local and native cuisines. Furthermore, the route enables us to explore sacred and historical monasteries located amongst, unspoiled wilderness, lush forests and awe-inspiring landscapes. The threat of altitude-related sickness is not an issue throughout this trail. Furthermore, compared to the cost of other trekking trails, Pikey Peak Trail is affordable to many people wishing to go on this trek. It is a short yet rewarding trek, a very good way of experiencing Nepal’s majestic Himalayan regions. Pikey Peak Trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Dhap and ends with a short and spectacular flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu.
